The 7 best beaches
near Olbia.
Pale sands, shallow seabeds, pink rocks, hidden coves. The coastline south of Olbia has nothing to envy of Costa Smeralda — but costs a third, and you can breathe. Our ranking, in order of affection.

1. Cala Brandinchi (San Teodoro) — the "little Tahiti"
Perhaps the most photographed beach in north-east Sardinia. Fine white sand, shallow water for tens of metres, frontal view of Tavolara. Perfect for families. Distance: 14 km from Porto San Paolo, 16 km from Murta Maria. Parking: paid, must be booked in high season (yes, even parking is now bookable).
2. Lu Impostu (San Teodoro)
Close to Cala Brandinchi and similar in atmosphere, but wider and breezier. Ideal for windsurfing or for those wanting a livelier beach with kiosks and services.
3. Porto Istana Beach
For us, one of the most beautiful overall. Three long crescents of pale sand, turquoise seabeds, Tavolara as a postcard backdrop. Distance: 3.6 km from Porto San Paolo, 2.4 km from Murta Maria. Parking: large free area but in high season it's best to arrive by 10:00.
4. Costa Corallina Beach
Small intimate coves nestled among pink rocks; the water has a turquoise that looks fake. Less touristy, more discreet. Distance: 1.6 km from Porto San Paolo, 4.1 km from Murta Maria. The parking is small: better by bike from Porto San Paolo, or early morning.
5. Le Saline Beach (Murta Maria)
Our local beach for Murta Maria guests. Golden sand, shallow water, perfect for a late-morning swim. Few services, plenty of nature. Distance: 2.2 km from Murta Maria.
6. Isola dei Cavalli Beach
Curiously named: it's called "island" but you can walk to it from Porto San Paolo. A narrow strip of sand reaching out to the open sea. Memorable sunsets. Distance: 1.2 km from Porto San Paolo (on foot).
7. Cala Suaraccia (Tavolara)
A small cove on Tavolara Island, reachable by a short trail or by sea. Our tip for adventurers: five hours of wild coastline, snorkeling among the rocks, no crowds.
