When to visit
north-east Sardinia.

From May to October, every month has its own character. Here's the calendar we use to answer the guests who ask us, every year.

Sunset in Sardinia

April

Sardinia in bloom. Almonds, broom, asphodels. Temperatures between 16 and 22 °C, sea still cold (15–16 °C). Great for trekking, inland excursions, slow living. Properties begin opening late in the month.

May

Our favourite month for those seeking silence. Temperatures rise to 20–24 °C, sea still a bit fresh (17–19 °C) but already swimmable for the brave. Beaches are practically empty. Restaurants have just opened: you eat well, you talk at the table, you make friends.

June

The real season begins. Temperatures reach 26–28 °C, the sea warms (20–22 °C), the boats to Tavolara are running at full pace. Until June 20 there's still pre-season air; afterwards, Sardinia fills with kids on summer break, holidaying Italians, the first northern European tourists. One of our favourite windows.

July

Full summer. 30–33 °C by day, sea at 24–25 °C, sirocco winds at times. Beaches are busy but never claustrophobic if you arrive early. Evenings on the Porto San Paolo seafront come alive with markets, music, people talking.

August

The hottest, busiest month. From mid-August onwards it's peak season. Rates rise, booking ahead is essential. Sardinia remains liveable though: half an hour away, you can always find quieter coves.

September

Our other heart-month. Schools reopen, tourists thin out, rates drop. But the sea is still warm (25 °C), days long and golden, the light already has the flavour of Mediterranean autumn. If you can choose, choose September.

October

A different Sardinia. Beautiful, windy, romantic. Temperatures 20–24 °C, sea still pleasant in the first two weeks. Perfect for those seeking trekking, photography, open wineries. Towards the end of the month some properties close.

Our recommendation

For silence and prices, choose mid-May or mid-September. For life and open restaurants, June or the first week of September. August is beautiful but demands planning and budget. April and October are for those who love nature more than swimming.

Booking ahead pays off

For high season (July to mid-August) we recommend booking at least three months in advance. For May, June and September there's more flexibility — but the "good" weeks still sell out by April.
